Omega Seamster Planet Ocean Professional Dive Chronograph Liquid Metal - Baselworld 2011

Introducing the all new Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Professional Dive Chronograph. Most notably, this Seamaster features an ultra hard ceramic bezel, with scaling and numbers made of an alloy called Liquidmetal® (Apple has the exclusive right to use this technology in consumer electronics, and the Swatch Group has the exclusive right to use the technology in watches). Last year Omega became the first watchmaker ever to blend ceramic and Liquidmetal®. According to Omega, the hardness of the materials means that the bezel (generally one of the most vulnerable parts on the exterior of a watch case), will maintain its appearance indefinitely.

2011 Rolex Explorer II Unveiled at Baselworld

One of the most talked about pieces at this year's Baselworld show, has been the new orange handed Rolex Explorer II. Anything Rolex is always going to get tons of hype and media attention, and this is no different. What is different, is that this Explorer is 2 mm larger in diameter than it's predecessor (at 42 mm). It also has a totally new in-house Rolex movement, the caliber 3187, which features Paraflex shock absorbers and a blue Parachrom hairspring (both features are upgrades to the previous Explorer II).

Baselworld 2011 Watch Shots

(Click image for galler - 3 photos) Today, is opening day at Baselworld, the world's largest watch and jewelry fair. I arrived here yesterday and have been meeting with numerous brands each day to learn about their newest timepieces, as well as taking photos. The three photos above are just a few of the many, many photos I will be publishing online this week, and throughout April. The first image is a beautiful new two register round case chronograph from Carl F. Bucherer, the second image is the haute horology MB&F Thunderbolt and the third image is the caseback of the Christophe Claret Blackjack 21, which is maybe one of the funnest watches I've ever seen (it has three mechanical casino games built-in: Blackjack, Dice and Roulette).

Baselworld 2011 Breguet Classique 7337

"Building on the success enjoyed at its launch in 2009, the Manufacture Breguet is offering a re-edition of its Classique 7337 this year, perfectly embodying the values of the House: elegance, refinement, timelessness and technical innovations. The brand's distinctive off-centred chapter ring and small seconds at 5 o'clock lend the customary asymmetrical touch. Exactly like on the historical watch N° 3833, the day and date indication appear on either side of the phases and age of the moon indications appearing at the top of the off-centred chapter ring. This creation with its hand-guiloché dial bears eloquent testimony to the constant quest for excellence and exclusivity characteristic of all Breguet creations."

Plus, it has a 6-Band Atomic timekeeping, which automatically sets itself using the nearest atomic clock (needs to be within 1,800 miles of 1 of the world's 6 atomic clocks).
