Patek Philippe’s most complicated and expensive watch ever is the Grandmaster Chime.

A Grandmaster Chime made specially for Only Watch, with a stainless steel case and salmon dial, sold for over $31 million in 2019 — becoming the world’s most expensive watch ever sold.

In 2019, before being auctioned for charity, the Grandmaster Chime went on a world press tour and I photographed it at Christie’s NYC. Interestingly, that exact watch would eventually go back to Patek Philippe to be reportedly destroyed, and the Genevan company would then make the same model again so the winner got a brand new one that had not been handled.

Exceeding thirty million — which is still the most expensive watch ever sold — may never happen again, still, any Grandmaster Chime, which debuted in 2014, is worth over seven figures. Shortly after the Grandmaster Chime debuted, PW was at the Rainbow Room for Patek Philippe’s 175th Anniversary, and a Grandmaster Chime was on display.

In 2021, Patek Philippe made a special version of the Grandmaster Chime 6300G-010 for Sylvester Stallone. Like the other Grandmaster Chimes, the watch has 20 complications, a reversible case with two dials, and five chiming mechanisms, in a 47.7 mm white gold case.

Unlike other Grandmaster Chimes 6300G-010, this example was delivered to Stallone in a presentation box with Stallone’s name engraved on the top. His name is also emblazoned on the booklet and certificate of origin. Patek also included a custom travel case, cufflinks, USB drive, sealed setting pin, hang tag, an Apple iPad with a Patek Philippe leather case, adapter, charger, and Apple EarPods with a Patek Philippe case.

Sotheby estimates the watch will sell for between $2.5 million to $5 million on June 5th in New York.
