Introducing the new Casio G-Shock MTG
March 29, 2018
This past week at the Baselworld watch fair in Switzerland, Casio introduced the next generation version of the G-Shock MT-G.
Offering a more robust construction and smaller form factor, this is the first MT-G with the Connected Engine module (Bluetooth timekeeping by connecting to smartphone app), Multi-Band 6 Atomic Timekeeping Technology (which provides accurate timekeeping virtually anywhere via radio signals from up to six different transmitters worldwide), and tough solar technology (which charges the onboard battery via light which enters the dial via discrete solar panels).
This means that the watch automatically sets the time with either Bluetooth or Atomic Radio waves, is self-powered, and can be monitored via the G-Shock Connected smartphone app (for iOS and Android).
Additionally, using the app you can easily set word time (selectable from 300 different cities) and alarms, on the watch. There is also a full auto Super Illuminator LED light, stopwatch, countdown timer, and a full auto calendar. There is even a really cool phone finder feature activated from the watch, should you misplace your phone.
Even the strap construction and integration have been completely rethought, for more durability and comfort. A new band structure composed of urethane and fine resin (thicker and softer band) are affixed to one another by screws, then securely affixed to the case with metal parts.
Also referred to as the Metal Twisted G-Shock, this premium the MT-G wristwatch has evolved significantly for 2018, with a new core guard case structure (outer case), a new carbon fiber reinforced resin case (inner case), and Triple G Resist – it’s more durable and shock resistant than ever.
The G-Shock “Metal Twisted” MT-GMTGB1000-1A features a sapphire crystal, which is set well below the bezel (armored) to protect against scratching. Dimensions are 55.4 mm in length, 51.92 mm in diameter, and 14.39 mm in thickness.
Despite the increased ruggedness and functionality, the MT-G is now slimmer by 1.11 mm slimmer and has a 1.58 mm smaller case width. The total package is visually sleeker and arguably more attractive than its predecessor.
