Rolex’s Day-Date, also known as the Presidential, became so common in Texas during the 1970s and 1980s, especially with oil magnates, and even President Lyndon B. Johnson, that people humorously compared it to an inexpensive Timex watch, even though it was a luxury item. The nickname, coined due to its prevalence and flashiness in Texas, eventually expanded to refer to any full yellow-gold Rolex dress watch.
