Seiko and HUF collaborated on a limited edition Seiko 5 Sports watch. inspired by Seiko’s 1970s “Time Sonar” model.
The Seiko 5 Sports HUF Limited Edition SRPM09 “Time Sonar” is presented in a 39.4 mm x 11.6 mm stainless steel case, which has a 48.1 mm lug-to-lug, and is fitted with an integrated, stamped stainless steel bracelet, that measures 20 mm at the lugs.
Founded in 2002 by professional skateboarder Keith Hufnagel, HUF is a lifestyle brand rooted in the spirit of skateboarding and street culture.
Connecting the archival Seiko “Time Sonar” design with HUF is a semi-transparent dial that features the vibrant “HUF Green,” and the ”huf” logo is placed at the 6 o’clock position on the dial. Through the transparent dial you can see the watch’s day and date wheel, which is cool because you get to see the mechanics but not in a way where you see the hair on your wrist, or where you get a close ups of unrefined mechanical parts. Adding some pop to the dial, HUF and Seiko gave the needle-shaped center seconds hand an orange varnish.
The exhibition case back, which screws-in to the case, features the same “HUF Green” as the dial and is decorated with a graphic inspired by San Francisco, the city where HUF was founded. As a mark of exclusivity, “LIMITED EDITION” and an individual serial number are engraved on the case back. The crown has a push-in, not screw-down design. Front and back Seiko’s hardened Hardlex.
The Seiko 5 Sports HUF Limited Edition SRPM09 “Time Sonar” weighs 146 grams total, is water-resistant to 100 meters, and is powered by 24-jewel automatic Seiko caliber 4R36, which features stop seconds, has a 41-hour power, and 24 jewels.
