Hong Kong-based watchmaker Atowak is building on its stainless steel Cobra collection from 2022 — with two new forged carbon versions for 2024.

Atowak’s Cobra Venom retains its distinctive angular serpent-head design that features an upscale layered forged carbon fiber case, snake scale dial, mother-of-pearl windows, a butter-soft FKM strap, and a unique combination of wandering hours and retrograde minutes display.

Made using a proprietary casting technique, that case material utilizes pure carbon fiber layered with pearlescent powder, creating what Atowak calls a “liquid-like metal texture” — each watch boasts a unique pattern akin to Damascus steel.

The Cobra Venom case measures 43 mm x 16.2 mm (lug-to-lug of 50 mm) and is 30 meters water-resistant. Thanks to the lightweight carbon fiber case and composite material caseback (a hybrid of carbon fiber and PPS material that is 40% lighter than before and that has a metal-like texture and higher strength) results in a weight reduction of 54.26% compared to the stainless steel Atowak Cobra.

In addition to the new aesthetic provided by the black or brown layered forged carbon, Atowak added a snake-scale motif to the dial. Enhancing its exotic allure, the Cobra Venom features black pearl inlays from Tahiti on both sides of the case. These 4A-grade pearls (Pinctada Margaritifera), known for their rich color variations and rarity, mirror the dangerous scales of a cobra.

Like the existing Cobra collection, the Cobra Venom display uses a rotating satellite wandering hour wheel that shows the hour on the hand and points to the minute on a retrograde 0-60 scale — making what at first appears to be a complex way of viewing time, enjoyably simple.

Delivering the power to the hours and minutes satellite is a 4Hz Japanese-made 24-jewel automatic Miyota 9039 movement that’s been heavily modified to work in this unorthodox configuration. With the Cobra Venom, Atowak has optimized the satellite wandering hour wheel system with a more stable and lightweight carbon fiber lever and aluminum axle for high load capacity and elasticity. The Atowak caliber AK-04 ultra-thin movement provides a 38-hour power reserve.

The toolless quick-release strap system has been revamped, paired with ultra-soft FKM rubber straps (black or brown) for superior comfort and ease of use. The black or brown rubber straps are 22 mm at the lugs and table to 20 mm at the buckle. The short end is 80 mm and the long side is 120 mm.

According to Atowak, “the Cobra’s satellite wandering hour wheel structure is composed of dozens of precision-engineered components. Each case undergoes over 60 hours of forging and fine polishing, achieving a metallic-like texture and a precision of 3-5 microns, ensuring perfection in every detail.”

Embodying the spirit of a nocturnal predator, the Cobra Venom features Swiss Super-LumiNova on the satellite hands, AK logo, and minutes (green glow), with a (blue glow) for the minute graduations — offering a captivating and long-lasting glow that perfectly represents the watch’s connection to the cobra’s midnight hunts.
