Japanese watchmaker Hajime Asaoka recently teased a concept watch that has no glass protecting the dial.

This watch has no glass because it’s a tactile watch, a type of watch traditionally made for those who have impaired vision. Sometimes also referred to as a braille watch.

According to Asaoka, the watchmaker himself, on LinkedIn, “This is a watch that you can read the time from by touching the hands. The original idea came from a Breguet pocket watch. When I was arranging it for a wristwatch, I made the pivot shaft of the watch hands very thick and supported it with a strong ball bearing. I also added a minute hand to improve its practicality.”

He then goes on to say, “This image is a design proposal, and the watch that is made may be slightly different.”
