Zeitwinkel, whose name is derived from a unit of measure used to calculate true local time, is a small St-Imier, Switzerland-based watch brand with in-house made movements. They are all Swiss, with German-style case and movement designs.

At Baselworld, we viewed their collection for the first time and came away quite impressed. The Zeitwinkel 081° is their most basic timepiece, with only hours and minutes. It is presented in a 39 mm by 11.6 mm stainless steel case with the brand’s signature case sides that feature a mixture of polished edges and brushed indented middle part.

On the front is a convex sapphire crystal with an interior anti-reflective treatment. The sapphire caseback features an interior anti-reflective treatment and is secured by six screws. The steel crown is embossed with the Zeitwinkel logo, and like the case, features a contrasting mixture of brushed and polished surfaces.

The crown has dual O-rings, which allows Zeitwinkel to offer a very secure closure, without using a screwed-down crown. Water-resistant to 50 meters. The dial has a Zeitwinkel logo pattern motif and comes in either: Galvanic black, silver (pictured), blue, or rhodium. The hours are marked with arrow-shaped indexes with beveled edges. The minute track is printed on the outer ring. The lance-shaped hour and minute hands are facetted and have been diamond cut, to contrast with the dial.

The manufacture caliber ZW0102 is crafted from German silver for the plates and bridges, which have been hand decorated with chamfered edges and Geneva stripes. The interior surfaces of the bridges and plates feature a perlage finish. The skeletonized oscillating weight is in German silver, with a gold weight and bi-directional winding.

The balance is Glucydur, the hairspring is Straumann, and the shock system is Incabloc. The ZW0102 runs at a rate of 4Hz has 28 jewels and a power reserve of 72-hours. Each movement goes through a five-stage calibration before delivery.

The Zeitwinkel 081° comes on a hand-sewn calfskin leather strap that is embossed with a Louisiana alligator pattern. Available in brown, black, blue, or grey. The folding clasp is steel and is engraved with “Zeitwinkel.” The retail price is approximately $7,250.
