This month, Casio will offer the first high-end MR-G version of its popular 2100 series, also known as the “CasiOak.”

The MR-G MRGB2100B-1A features a 44.4 mm x 13.6 mm (49.5 mm lug-to-lug) premium titanium and Cobarion case and bracelet (122 grams) — and a dial inspired by Kigumi, the ancient art of traditional Japanese interlocking woodwork. “This construction method, originating from the Heian period (794-1185), eliminates metal or nails, relying on intricately carved and processed wood ends to form a sturdy framework,” according to Casio.

Like with all MR-G pieces production involves state-of-the-art materials, advanced construction, and intricate hand finishing of many components. The MRGB2100B-1A’s case is crafted from 27 separate components — each part of the timepiece is meticulously polished before assembly, ensuring a flawless, distortion-free finish, even in the most challenging recessed areas. The bracelet features dimpled sections constructed from individual components, further highlighting the artisanal craftsmanship. Mirror finishes are achieved with Sallaz polishing, a technique utilized by other high-end Japanese watchmakers.

Naturally, the timepiece offers G-Shock’s latest Japanese timekeeping innovations.
