Omega’s solid 18K gold Speedmaster was prominently worn on Tom Hiddleston’s wrist, throughout Season 2 of The Night Manager.
Seeing a 42 mm diameter Omega Speedmaster in solid 18K Moonshine™ (Ref. 310.60.42.50.99.002), on Hiddleston’s character, Jonathon Pine, a British spy, is not unlike seeing Omega’s on the wrists’ of every James Bond actor since Pierce Brosnan, in 1995’s Golden Eye.
With Omega’s proprietary 18K yellow gold alloy for the case and bracelet, and high gold prices, Hiddleston’s Speedmaster retail price is an eye-watering $50,500. Being that The Night Manager (Season 2) takes place primarily in Columbia, and with a mixture of luxury and jungle backdrops, a solid gold wristwatch seems appropriate.
Omega pays for its watches to be placed in all James Bond films, and so it’s likely this is product placement as well, considering both feature storylines focused on British spies.
Interestingly, Season 1, of The Night Manager, literally came out a decade ago. So Season 2, which has a storyline based on long period of time from the last, is essentially real-time.
Diego Calva, who plays Teddy Dos Santos, wore an Omega De Ville Prestige (Ref. 434.23.41.21.09.001), which measures 41 mm in diameter and features a stainless steel and Sedna™ gold case (Omega’s proprietary 18K rose gold), that retails for $9,800.
Final Thoughts
Adding further credence to the idea that Omega placed its products in The Night Manager Season 2, is the fact that not one but two gold Omega’s appeared on the wrists’ of the two star actors. Moreover, as a publication, Omega sends us more red carpet coverage of its watches than any other watch brand. That plus Omega’s longstanding Olympic sponsorship, as well as paying to be in all James Bond films since 1995, leads us to believe this was paid as well. Omega is an incredible watch brand, with tasteful designs that are generally not ostentatious or flashy; however, when it comes to marketing, subtlety is not its strong suit.
