Two US-based watch publications partnered with Zodiac to design fun versions of the Super Sea Wolf dive watch.
Worn & Wound and ABlogtoWatch, which both started out as blogs — and morphed into digital magazines with the former also expanding to include a full e-commerce shop as well — have experience creating unique designs in collaboration with watch brands.
The Super Sea Wolf Aquamarine Dream special edition was designed by Ariel Adams of ABTW and was inspired by the marine colors of Nassau that Ariel recalls from his 2019 trip to the Bahamas. The Super Sea Wolf Limited Edition was designed by Zach Weiss of W&W and was inspired by sneaker designs, and also has some aquamarine hues but has more block-shaped hour markers and hands (whereas the ABTW version has markers and hands that have slightly rounded edges) and a graphite color dial and bezel (whereas the ABTW version stays with the aquamarine theme for the dial and bezel). The W&W edition has a textile strap with a velcro strap while the ABTW version comes with a stainless steel bracelet and a matching aquamarine tropical rubber strap.
Each watch comes in a 40 mm diameter x 13.6 mm thick Super Sea Wolf case (49 mm lug-to-lug) that’s water-resistant to 200 meters. Fossil-group owns Zodiac and also Swiss movement maker STP, and so naturally, the watch is powered by a group-owned movement. The movement is a 4Hz automatic caliber STP 3-13 with a 44-hour power reserve, which is not a reliable as an ETA or Sellita but keeps the price down. The dial is protected by a premium sapphire crystal, while the bezel insert is made of mineral crystal, which is less brittle but easier to scratch than sapphire.
Interestingly, while the timepieces are fundamentally based on the same existing model — with the same case dimensions, bezel material, and ETA movement — the prices are $400 apart. Notably, the ABTW model does come with a stainless steel bracelet and a rubber strap so that’s likely why the price is so much higher. The W&W Super Sea Wolf Limited Edition timepiece is in fact a limited edition (182 pieces) and costs $1,095 while the ABTW Super Sea Wolf Aquamarine Dream version is a special edition that does not have a limit on production per se and costs $1,495.
