Zodiac, which was purchased by Fossil, Inc. in 2001, is a historic watch brand that’s been making a comeback in recent years, and this week at Baselworld, as you’ve likely already seen around the web, they debuted two limited edition Aerospace GMT watches, which are based on the original Aerospace GMTs that dates back to 1966.

The new vintage-inspired piece comes in a 40 mm diameter stainless steel case that measures 48 mm lug-to-lug and is 13 mm thick. This is a perfect size for many wrists, and comparable to vintage GMT-Masters, which cost a fortune nowadays.

Zodiac went with the ETA2893-2 automatic movement, instead of the Fossil Groups STP movement, which is fine considering that movement is very similar anyway. The ETA 2893-2 (25.60 mm x 4.10 mm) runs at 4Hz, has 21 jewels, a 38-hour power reserve, and features hours, minutes, seconds, 24-hour hand, and date.

One of the interesting design decisions was to go with a bezel meant to look like the original Bakelite style from the 60s, for which they used a mineral crystal insert.

At this point, only 182 limited editions in each colorway (blue/orange and blue/gray) are being made, but they likely have a regular model planned for the near future. (Ref. ZO9400)
