Last week, at Baselworld 2019, Casio introduced a new G-Shock Gravitymaster GWRB1000X-1A Limited Edition designed for aviation professionals and with a unique Carbon Monocoque case construction, which means the outer skin absorbs a major part of the stresses, such as drops, shocks, and impacts.
The Gravitymaster case measures 46.4 mm in diameter (which is relatively conservatively sized as far as G-Shocks go) and features a premium carbon case middle as well as carbon and epoxy resin materials, and rust-resistant titanium to add further strength, while also maintaining a very lightweight. The bezel is made of laminated carbon (52 layers), and the dial and insert band also utilize carbon fiber, all designed to withstand conditions where most other watches would fail. The dial is protected by an armored sapphire crystal. And the movement and dial have G-Shock’s Triple G Resist designed to protect against shock, vibration, and serious amounts of centrifugal force, crucial for pilots.
The watch can connect with the G-Shock Connected smartphone app via Bluetooth, to keep very accurate time by calibrating with the same system that keeps the time on your mobile phone, including adjusting for daylight saving time and time zone changes. The timekeeping accuracy is also backed by redundant Multiband 6 calibration in the event that the mobile phone sync does not work, due to no signal, and so forth. The watch is equipped with tough solar, meaning that light comes through the dial to power the quartz movement’s battery. In addition to luminescent hands and indices, the watch also has double LEDs that automatically illuminate the dial in darker conditions, and can also be activated on demand.
Water-resistance is 200 meters, and the watch also includes a dual time function, countdown timer, daily alarm, and full auto calendar. The GWRB1000X-1A will retail for $1,000 and will be available for purchase beginning in May.
