TAG Heuer: Monaco 24 Concept Chronograph

TAG Heuer has unveiled a new high-tech prototype watch to celebrate the 24 Hours of Le Mans race - the TAG Heuer MONACO 24 Concept Chronograph. It is inspired by the Le Mans endurance racecars and comes with a Calibre 36 movement that "floats" inside an oversized (40.5mm) black PVD-coated case, suspended within a steel-tube housing and visible through the dial face and the sapphire crystal caseback. The components of the TAG Heuer MONACO 24 Concept Chronograph are further protected by a new composite filter material that's used in auto racing.

Corum Ti-Bridge

The Corum Ti-Bridge was introduced this past March, in Basel. I did get a chance to see this exclusive timepiece, up-close. Definitely one of those stand out pieces that makes you think back to the days when Corum made the popular Bubble watches. Except this one demonstrates a much more advanced level of watchmaking know-how. It features Corum's second in-house movement, the CO 007. It is reminiscent of Corum's CO 113 caliber, which is used in the Golden Bridge. But the 007 is a totally new design. The movement runs at 4Hz or 28,800 vph, it is manually wound and features 21 jewels. The bridge is titanium with a satin-finish and engraved Corum logo. The barrel features a snailed finish. Four triangular casing clamps hold the movement in place. So when you look through the front of the watch,

Video: DualTow by Christophe Claret

The DualTow watch was created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Le Locle based manufacture, Christophe Claret. This 3D high-definition video shows off the watches impressive innovations and features. The most innovative attribute is its unique single-pusher planetary-gear chronograph with a striking system. A single-push piece activates three identically structured planetary gears that control the chronograph functions. A patent has been filed for this original interpretation of the chronograph. As if that is not enough, Christophe Claret has chosen to add a striking mechanism signaling when the chronograph is started, stopped and reset. Placed on either side of the dial are belt-type displays. Hours are displayed on the left belt and minutes on the right. A fork was added to serve the time. This unprecedented mechanism is exclusive to Christophe Claret. At 6 o'clock lies a visible 60-second tourbillon.

Feature: Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre

During my recent JLC boutique visit I viewed many beautiful timepieces. And as I promised, here is my favorite - the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre. In most chronographs the "timekeeping" and "chronograph" functions, share the same power source. So when the chronograph is used, the timekeeping accuracy can be affected. To improve the chronometric efficiency of the "timekeeping" function, Jaeger-LeCoultre engineered two separate power sources (and gear trains.) One for the "chronograph" (stopwatch) and one for "timekeeping" (seconds, minutes and hours.) This eliminates the typical power loss that occurs when the chronograph is in use. In fact, up until now, two separate power reserves were only available on extremely complicated Sonnerie timepieces.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso à Eclipse

At first glance, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso à Eclipse appears to be a traditional Reverso timepiece. But, if you spin the wheel on the outside of the case (at 2 o'clock), the dial shutters open to reveal a secret beneath. This is no ordinary Reverso. Beneath lies a hand-painted enamel work of art. This rare form of art, enamel dial painting, is one that has long been used in haute horology. But the skill level required is so high, that few people in the world can produce these intricate paintings. For JLC to be able to apply this expertise within a Reverso model, behind the actual dial - is quite impressive.
