Jaeger-LeCoultre has just announced the Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire in a limited series of 200 pieces. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre Chronograph was the first Dual-Wing movement watch. The Quantième Lunaire uses the same Dual-Wing concept (originally introduced in 2007), except, instead of a chronograph function, it features a date and moonphase function. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Dual-Wing movement uses two separate power supplies.

One power supply is entirely dedicated to displaying the time (hour, minute and seconds hands), the date and moonphase, the other is dedicated to and regulated by the escapement and balance. Both are synchronized through the jumping seconds hand mechanism (foudroyante) driven by the escapement.

The Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire Limited Series comes in a 42 mm polished and brushed 18k white gold case with a matte black dial with applied numeral and matte black alligator leather strap with 18k white gold folding clasp. The series number is visible at 6 o’clock.

Powering the Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire is the JLC Calibre 381 in-house movement. It features a large balance wheel (10 mm) and an inertia of 11.5 mg cm2 beating at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz). The calibre is divided into two sections, on each side sits one barrel with its mainspring guaranteeing a power reserve of 50 hours: one for hours, minutes, seconds, jumping seconds, the date and the moonphase, the other for the escapement device to ensure constant power supply.

Both springs are wound through the crown: rotating it counter clockwise, winds the timing barrel (escapement), turning the crown counter-clockwise winds the power reserve of the functions (hour, minute, seconds, jumping seconds, date, moonphase).

The Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire embodies the latest in horological achievements of Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Dual-Wing Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 381 is dedicated to achieving the highest possible precision for a mechanical movement. And thanks to its unique concept the watch reaches a level of accuracy unprecedented for complicated watches. The price is $45,000. (Ref. Q6043570)
