Glashutte-based high-end watchmaker, A. Lange & Söhne, continues as the sponsor of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este for the 2021 edition, which takes place from October 1st to the 3rd.
Since 2012, each year, the winner of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, has received a Lange 1 Time Zone watch, which is an incredible prize. This year, however, the lucky “Best of Show” winner walks away with a special piece unique 1815 Chronograph 2021 Concorso Edition.
The 39.5 mm x 11.9 mm white gold case is the same as offered within the standard catalog. As is the gorgeous hand-finished manually wound 2.5Hz caliber L951.5 flyback chronograph movement, that has a 60-hour power reserve, consists of 306 parts, including 4 screw-gold chatons, and drives hours, minutes, small seconds, chronograph minutes, and center chronograph seconds hands. There’s no date — which is reserve for the Datograph — but this design has more of a throwback feel than its sibling, and meshes perfectly with the kind of cars being displayed at the Concorso.
What is special for this edition — beyond it being a “piece unique” — is the solid 18K pink gold salmon-colored dial, with brown-colored counters. And of course, the hinged “officer” caseback, that’s been engraved with “Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este” around the perimeter and features the event’s coat of arms relief engraved in the center, contrasted by a frosted finish that surrounds the shield motif, and that’s dated 1929-2021 to represent how long the classic car show has been in operation.
A. Lange & Söhne’s 1815 Chronograph 2021 Concorso Edition (Ref. 414.049) is paired with a dark brown hand-stitched leather strap and there’s no retail price because the watch is a prize and is not for sale.
