To begin Watches and Wonders 2024, Laurent Ferrier introduced a new Annual Calendar featuring the company’s first Moon Phase.

The Laurent Ferrier Classic Moon comes in a 40 mm x 12.9 mm stainless steel case with a gray-blue opaline dial or 18K/750 5N red gold with a vertical satin-finished silver-white dial. Each case has a curved fixed bezel, curved sapphire crystal, and short rounded lugs, completed by a fluted ball-shaped crown — all signature features of Ferrier’s Classic collection aesthetic.

Respective to each model are Ferrier’s distinctive Assegai-shaped hour and minute hands, in 18K/750 white gold 210 Pd, painted white (blue dial) or treated with ruthenium (silver-white dial), a baton-type small second hand without a counterweight ( painted white or treated with ruthenium), and a center Assegai-shaped date hand (painted in pastel blue or cherry red).

The gorgeous opaline or satin-finished dials have vintage-inspired date numbers in pastel blue or petrol blue transfer, and “31” in azure blue or cherry red. The outer circle has Roman numerals and baton-shaped indices in white or anthracite gray transfer. The small seconds at 6 o’clock have an outer circle in gray-blue opaline and powder gray or anthracite gray markers.

Dual beveled windows frame the days and months as they change at 12 o’clock, and as the central date hand sweeps the dial indicating the date, with no need to adjust it except once per year on March 1 (if kept wound). Corrections are handled by miniature push-buttons set flush in the left flank of the case, the day corrector at 10 o’clock, and the moon corrector between 8 and 9 o’clock.

At 6 o’clock is the marquee complication, the moon phase dial, intricately crafted with Aventurine glass and translucent enamel, resulting in a gorgeous finishing touch to the dial side.

In addition to the time, date, and moon phase indications (on the dial), there’s also a power reserve zone indicator (on the movement side), showing how much of the 80-hour power reserve remains — and giving you another reason to stare at the movement.

“At the center of the small seconds dial, an enigmatic dark blue moon disc represents the cycles of the moon. First, Aventurine glass from Murano artisans is engraved to create the shape of the moon and stars with hand-applied white paint for the details. The moon and stars are then hand-filled with Super-LumiNova and fired at high temperatures. Afterwards, the Super-LumiNova is further engraved to create craters on the moon’s surface. The magnificent moon phase disc is then adorned with a translucid petrol blue enamel applique, imbuing it with an enchanting and sophisticated effect.

An understated miniature baton pointer in white-lacquered or ruthenium-treated white gold indicates the seconds. The lunar phases of the Northern Hemisphere are opposed to the Southern Hemisphere moon, as indicated by the N and S markers between the small second markers,” stated in the Laurent Ferrier press release.

Inspired by the brand’s previous annual calendar movement, the LF126.01, the new Laurent Ferrier caliber LF126.02 is a redesigned and improved version with a larger 80-hour power reserve. Over 30 new components have been added to create this new caliber, and more than twenty have been revised and optimized. One of the best features is the power reserve indicator is positioned on the caseback side of the watch movement.

The 3Hz, 31.6 mm x 6.3 mm, 266 component, 25 jewel movement, free-sprung balance spring, and variable balance wheel-equipped movement has a long blade ratchet pawl which is a characteristic of all hand-wound Laurent Ferrier calibers, offered in a polished bassiné finish handcrafted in the LF workshops.

Completing this horological work of art are full bridges lusciously adorned with Rhodium-treated Côtes de Genève decoration, and embellished with circular graining on the mainplate. Perhaps best of all, the edges and interior angles are beveled and polished by hand, just like each recessed screw head in the movement — which you can see in the photos.
