To start off 2022, Longines debuted six new variations of its Legend Diver, including half of those references offered in a new smaller 36 mm case size.
The current 42 mm Longines Legend, which is a rather faithful recreation of a 1960s archival model, has two new gradient dial variations available (gray and beige), paired with new matching textile straps. The all-new 36 mm versions also come in three gradient dial options (beige, bordeaux, blue), with matching textile straps.
Like the larger 42 mm x 12.7 mm stainless steel Legend Diver (22 mm lug width – weight 87.2 grams), the smaller 36 mm x 11.9 mm stainless steel Legend Diver (lug width 19 mm – weight 62.8 grams) has a printed Explorer-style dial with Arabic numerals at 12, 6, and 9 — a date window at 3 — and indices marking the rest of hours. Surrounding the dial is a bidirectional rotating dive bezel, printed on the 45-degree angled flange, which is controlled by one of the locking crowns on the right case flank. The other crown handles time setting, date, and winding.
Protecting the dial side is a box-shaped sapphire crystal, with a screw-in stainless steel caseback featuring a diver with a spear embossed in the center. The depth rating for all versions is 300 meters. Underneath the dial is either caliber L888.5 (72-hour power reserve, 3.5Hz) for the 42 mm models and caliber L592.2 (45-hour power reserve, 4Hz) for the 36 mm references.
Of the five new 2022 Legend Diver references, four come with a textile strap with a leather backing (Ref. L3.3188.8.131.52 – 36 mm blue, L3.3184.108.40.206 – 36 mm bordeaux, L3.3220.127.116.11 – 36 mm beige, L3.718.104.22.168 – 42 mm beige), and the gray model (Ref. L3.722.214.171.124 – 42 mm gray) comes with a one-piece textile Nato-style strap.
The retail price for all five references is $2,400.
