Mido — one of the most accessibly priced Swiss brands within the Swatch Group — quietly released a new version of their retro style Commander timepiece this month.
The Commander Blue Shade gives the stainless steel timepiece with a 1970s aesthetic — a modern black PVD case. The case measures 37 mm x 10.45 mm and comes on a stainless steel Milanese mesh bracelet. To complete the new look, the satin-finished dark blue gradient dial — which is a lighter shade of blue in the center and gets darker towards the perimeter of the dial — gives the watch its Shade denomination.
The dial features stick hands, short rectangular applied indices, and wide a day/date window at 3 o’clock. A domed acrylic crystal protects the front side with snap-on steel caseback. Water-resistance is rated to 50 meters. (Ref. M8429.3.25.11)
Driving the three hands and day/date is an automatic ETA C07.621 (caliber 80 based on ETA 2836-2) which runs at 3Hz, has 25 jewels, and an 80-hour power reserve.
