Belgian watchmaker Ressence recently unveiled one of its sleekest designs yet.

After Ressence debuted its Type 1, which measures 42 mm x 13 mm, the unique watch brand gained a strong appeal. Ressence watches forgo a traditional crown and utilize a patented modified construction with outsourced Swiss movements as the base.

Following the Type 1, the brand has offered a variety of cases and designs, and even a smartwatch, that have led to less brand appeal, from my perspective.

The Type 9 appears to have finally got back to basics, with a new design that consists of a well-sized 39 mm x 11 mm titanium case — with a highly domed dial, case, and sapphire crystal — that weighs a mere 39 grams on a strap.

The dial is minimalist, with just hours and minutes being displayed, and the watch maintains the ROCs system which features a modified outsourced Swiss movement, that allows the entire time display to rotate, and the watch to be wound and set by turning the caseback, instead of a crown.

Available in gray (now) or aqua blue (February 2025), the 182-component watch has luminous markings, has a 36-hour power reserve, comes with a textile strap with titanium Ardillon buckle, and retails for approximately $14,000. There’s no question this is a lot of money for a watch without an in-house movement, however, for those who like the distinctive look and functionality, there are no comparable alternatives.
