Earlier this month, Audemars Piguet announced a new version of its Royal Oak Skeleton timepiece in an all-new gold alloy.

The Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Openworked 18K Sand Gold features a 41 mm x 10.6 mm case manufactured in the company’s new 18K sand gold which has a hue that’s somewhere between white and pink gold, thanks to the addition of more palladium than found in pink gold and less than in white gold.

Audemars Piguet’s automatic caliber 2972 which measures 31.5 mm x 6.2 mm, beats at 3Hz, powers the hours, minutes, and flying tourbillon. The 271 component movement has been completely skeletonized allowing you to see right through it. Once fully wound the 27-jewel caliber can run 65 hours autonomously, and is continually wound by wrist movement.

To provide contrast, the Royal Oak hands and indices have been crafted in 18K white gold and given a lume treatment. Also, there’s a mixture of sand gold and rhodium hues on the dial to offer contrast.

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Openworked 18K Sand Gold (Ref. 26735SG.OO.1320SG.01) is water-resistant to 50 meters and retails for $250K.
