Today, Seiko Thailand released details on a new limited edition Alpinist.
The Prospex Alpinist GMT Asia Limited Edition features the existing Alpinist GMT stainless steel case that measures 39 mm x 13.6 mm, with a 20 mm lug width, and a fixed bezel.
What’s unique is the black versus tone-on-tone outer bezel, a green inner rotating bezel, and a textured black dial. Plus, being a limited edition, inspired by the Hornbill (tropical bird), it comes in a special bark motif box and includes a black leather strap in addition to the stainless steel bracelet.
The movement, which is visible through the open caseback, is Seiko’s premium 6R54 caliber, with automatic bi-directional Magic Lever winding, 3Hz beat rate, and 72-hour power reserve.
On the dial are central hour, minute, and seconds hands, and a date function between 4 and 5 o’clock. There’s also a GMT hand allowing you to display a second-time zone. The inner bezel, distinguished by its green color, controlled by the second crown at 4 o’clock, is a compass that can be used by positioning the hour hand to aim at the sun and then halfway between that and the 12 o’clock in the Northern Hemisphere is South (in the Southern Hemisphere), the calculation represents North. From there, take the reading and adjust the inner compass bezel, to help guide you to your destination. Repeat as often as needed.
The watch has a premium sapphire crystal, and dual screw-down crowns, and is water-resistant to 200 meters. The Prospex Alpinist GMT Asia Limited Edition (Ref. SPB493J) is limited to 500 pieces, is exclusive to Asia, and retails for approximately $1,650.
