Omega’s latest Speedmaster features two types of meteorite on the dial and a unique dual hemisphere moonphase indicator.

The Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite is delivered in a 43 mm x 13.6 mm 316L stainless steel twisted lug case, with a 48.6 mm lug-to-lug and a 21 mm lug width. With the 9000 series chronograph caliber as the base, Omega watchmakers integrated a unique moonphase display that shows the lunar cycles, as seen from both the northern and southern hemispheres.

The brand new 4Hz in-house manual winding Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 9914 features a column wheel, a silicon balance spring, 2 barrels mounted in series, and a power reserve of 60 hours. The METAS-certified chronometer movement is anti-magnetic to 15,000 gausses and is rated to 0/+5 seconds per day (better than a chronometer performance). The movement is decorated with rhodium-plated bridges, red varnished engravings, black screws, and Geneva waves in arabesque.

Surrounded by a fixed stainless steel bezel with a black or blue ceramic insert, the primary dial is made from thinly sliced iron meteorite, giving each dial a one-of-a-kind appearance. Each iron meteorite dial has a black PVD or galvanic gray coating, which visually enhances the distinctive texture. The dial features 18K gold baton-shaped central hour and minute hands (and 18K applied indices), a red-tipped central chronograph hand, three sunken black or blue counters that indicate the date by hand (red anodizes aluminum), and small seconds (18K white gold hand) at 9 o’clock, the chronograph time at 3 o’clock (both 12 hours and 60-minutes), and the marquee dual hemisphere moonphase indicator at 6 o’clock.

According to Omega, “At 6 o’clock, the Moonphase indication shows two cabochon Moons, which have been crafted from genuine pieces of Moon meteorite. As they turn, they reveal the changing illuminations seen in the northern and southern hemispheres, and even more incredibly, the stars in the background are positioned exactly as they were on the night that Apollo 11 reached the Moon in 1969 – as seen from Omega’s watchmaking home in Bienne, Switzerland.”
