Sylvester Stallone explains why he’s selling eleven timepieces from his collection, including the rare Grandmaster Chime made especially for him by Patek Philippe.

On June 5, 2024, Sotheby’s will auction Stallone’s Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, along with two highly coveted Patek Philippe Nautilus timepieces, and watches from Cartier, Panerai, Rolex, and Audemars Piguet.

“The one thing that is pervasive throughout all these watches, is that they attract me emotionally. It’s not about keeping time, it’s about keeping in step with where you are in life,” says Stallone.

In the world of high-end timepieces, where even the most wealthy buyers are required to apply for hard-to-get timepieces, such as the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, it’s an unwritten rule that you don’t sell the watch (similar to Ferrari not wanting its cars resold). Although it’s perhaps less of an issue if you’re a celebrity — and considering the free press this sale will generate — it’s unclear if Sly will be prevented from buying from Patek Philippe again, after selling rare pieces.
