TAG Heuer, whose parent company LVMH is an investor in Hodinkee, has worked with the publication turned seller on two past creations, a Carrea Skipper and Carrera Dato 45, and today debuts a third.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Seafarer x Hodinkee is a limited edition modern retro Carrera timepiece with a tide indicator and a regatta timer functioning.
Visually the design is based on the Abercrombie & Fitch Seafarer Ref. 2446C from 1968, with the same color scheme and bezel aesthetic. However, instead of using a historically correct Autavia case, the popular modern 42 mm x 14.4 mm (48.6 mm) Carrera “Glassbox” case was used.

Naturally, the movement is also contemporary, as we see in most retro timepieces, and in this case, TAG Heuer’s 4Hz, automatic, 33-jewel, 80-hour power reserve, caliber TH20-13 with in-house tide indicator powers the hours, minutes, small seconds, chronograph, and tide indicator (no date). As you can see from the cover image, the crystal is prominently domed, and that too has been modernized with a premium sapphire, not plexiglass.
The Seafarer logo was relocated to the flange of the small seconds dial at 6. The tide indicator function is displayed in the sub-dial at 9 o’clock, and the chronograph minutes sub-dial at 3 o’clock indicates elapsed time as well as functioning as a regatta timer thanks to the 5-minute yacht race interval graduations. The watch can be used to determine daily tidal periods and phases of the moon. The “TIDE” pusher on the left case flank allows for adjusting the tide indicator dial.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Seafarer Limited Edition x Hodinkee Tide Indicator is water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters, has a clear caseback engraved with “TAG HEUER x HODINKEE” and “XXX/968” and is delivered on a textured, integrated black rubber strap.
The retail price is $7,950 and the watch is available in a numbered limited edition of 968 pieces, 125 for sale at Hodinkee and the rest at TAG Heuer boutiques and retailers.
