This morning, Massena LAB announced a collaboration between MB&F and clockmaker L’Epée 1839 based on the T-Rex Art Clock that was first created for the Only Watch charity auction.

The MB&F x L’Epée x Massena LAB T-Rex Bronze Clock is a new version of that and is limited to just 15 clocks that are available for sale starting today.

Taking the original T-Rex Clock design, the team switched stainless steel for a bronze alloy. Consisting of 63 components, the body of the clock is 265 mm tall (or 10.4″) and weighs approximately 4.5lbs. The bronze feet have been hand oxidized using a chemical oxidation process (as opposed to natural oxidization) resulting in a controlled patination — still no two clocks have the same finish.

Made of green hand-blown Murano glass, the eyeball is the dial of this table clock, with two curved steel hands that are connected to the center of the eyeball, indicating the hour and minutes.

Located behind the dial, and visible from all sides is a 138-component 17-jewel movement designed and manufactured in-house by renowned Swiss clockmaker L’Epée 1839. Looking down on the clock from an overhead view, you can see the large balance wheel mounted horizontally and beating at 2.5Hz, or 18,000 semi-oscillations to and fro, per hour.

The mainspring is wound with a key at the back of the movement and can run once fully wound — for eight days. Using the same key, at the center of the dial, you can set the time.
