Through acquisition, LVMH has added two companies that are adjacent to the watch industry, although neither is a watchmaker.
The first occurred in 2019, when Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy bought Tiffany & Co., and while Tiffany does sell watches, production is outsourced, so they’re not a watchmaker per se.
The second acquisition was in 2024, when LVMH acquired Swiss clockmaker L’Epée.
Under LVMH’s direction, Tiffany already introduced an airplane clock in August 2024, manufactured by L’Epée, as well as numerous automobile clocks.
Now they’ve collaborated again and are offering a Tiffany Blue® version of their automotible clock, called the Time for Speed Clock. Notably, at least two other editions of this have been produced, one with a primarily black exterior, and another that’s almost identical but with a diamond-setting around the time display.
Here’s the description by Tiffany: “The Time for Speed collection pays tribute to the House’s heritage of expert Swiss watchmaking and handcrafting racing trophies. Inspired by race cars from the 1950s, each clock is crafted in aluminum with Tiffany Blue® automotive paint and features hard-wearing rubber tires with polished stainless steel spokes and rims. On the car’s left side, a brushed stainless steel aperture displays the hours and minutes. The radiator-style grill is monogrammed with our logo, while a helmet-shaped dome of glass over the driver’s seat showcases the escapement and balance wheel. On the bumper, a bold “5” nods to the Tiffany & Co. flagship store’s famous Fifth Avenue address. The time is set by rotating the three-spoke steering wheel counterclockwise, and the movement is wound by pulling the car back on a flat surface.”
The chassis is made of aluminum with Tiffany Blue® automotive paint, stainless steel spokes and rims, hard-wearing rubber tires, and a glass dome encases the driver’s seat. The Swiss-made automobile clocks measure 6.2″ wide x 15.2″ long x 4.7″ high and weigh 10.3lbs.
This new non-diamond-set version of the Time for Speed Clock retails for $45,000.
