First introduced in 2022, the Black Bay Pro is essentially Tudor’s version of the Rolex Explorer II.

In 2025, Tudor finally followed up the original black dial variant with a white dial version, as we all knew they would at some point.

The Black Bay Pro Opaline is delivered in the same 200-meter water-resistant 39 mm x 14.6 mm stainless steel case with an option for a rivet-style tapered stainless steel bracelet, a non-tapered fabric strap with a yellow stripe, or a tapered leather and rubber hybrid strap.

Tudor used the same automatic caliber MT5652 movement first seen in the Black Bay Pro with a black dial. The movement remains COSC-certified, so it’s considered a “Chronometer” not a “Master Chronometer.”

While no enhancements have been made to the Black Bay Pro collection — this is a line extension — Tudor unfortunately raised the price between the launch of the original Black Bay Pro in 2022 and now. In that roughly three year period the price has risen $375 on all references.

For four grand plus, you get a true “flyer” GMT (where the local/main hour hand jumps in one-hour increments), with a yellow snowflake-tipped 24-second hour hand, that looks a lot like Rolex’s 42 mm Explorer II (which has an orange 24-hour arrow tipped second hour hand), a watch that currently costs $9,750 more than double. The Black Bay Pro is 3 mm less in diameter and is not as thin as the Explorer II. Nor is it adjusted to Superlative, or even Master Chronometer levels before it leaves the factory, though it features an in-house GMT movement, adjusted to better than Chronometer specifications -4/+6 (Tudor Black Bay Pro -2/+4), which is still impressively precise.

Being that Rolex watches are positioned at luxury price points now, and the Professional stainless steel models are far harder to get than any Tudor reference, the Black Bay Pro could be the perfect option for some. Especially if you want to take it out and explore, without worrying about keeping it pristine.

The Black Bay Pro with an Opaline “Polar” dial is $4,050 on a strap (Ref. M79470-005, black fabric strap with yellow stripe, non-tapered or Ref. M79470-006, black leather and rubber strap, tapered) or $4,375 on a stainless steel bracelet (Ref. M79470-004, stainless steel bracelet).
