Based on the properties, cars, wines, liquors, clothing, and especially the watches, The Gentlemen television series by Netflix comes off not just as a typical Guy Ritchie production — it has Billions and Succession-level luxury vibes.
Whether the sheer amount of watches was a result of product placement or not is unclear. What’s clear is that someone from the production must love watches because this was the most I’ve ever seen watches involved in a movie or television production — both visually and as part of the storyline.
British GQ covered the topic when the series came out in 2024 and spoke directly to The Gentlemen costume designer. According to the article, the costume team wanted to showcase real instead of prop watches, however, some characters were intentionally given fakes.
The Gentlemen (Season 1) consists of 8 episodes that deliver recognizable watch after recognizable watch. Setting the stage in the first episode, I was pleasantly surprised to see the incredible FP Journe Chronomètre Souverain (a $65,000 timepiece) on the wrist of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito.
Following the Journe, you then see a multi-million dollar rare vintage 1518 Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar, followed by an array of watches from different brands including a Cartier Santos, Bremont, solid gold pre-owned Rolex Daytona, Cartier Tank, Girard-Perregaux x Ferrari Chronograph, Paneria Luminor, vintage Omega Constellation, and Patek Philippe Nautilus 5990.
There were two memorable scenes involving Patek Philippe timepieces in the storyline, one with a rare vintage 1518 and one with a solid gold Nautilus 5990, but I won’t spoil it any further than that.
Even though the FP Journe was never directly alluded to like Patek Philippe, seeing the FP Journe Chronomètre Souverain on actor Esposito’s wrist juxtaposed against a bespoke suit (screenshot above) makes it hard not to appreciate. With its platinum case, gorgeous silvery-white guilloche-work dial, and unmistakable blued hands — the Journe visually stole the scene like no other watch I can ever recall onscreen.
Now that the bar is set so high, let’s hope the showrunners take the watch game up another level in Season 2 (expected 2026) — if that’s even possible.
