The hotly anticipated, co-branded Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Fifty Fathoms has been officially announced, ahead of its 9.9.2023 release date.
Presented in a 42.3 mm x 14.4 mm bioceramic case (48 mm lug-to-lug) — that resembles Blancpain’s famous Fifty Fathoms model — the Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms will retail for $400.
As rumored, the Blancpain x Swatch is powered by a Sistem51 automatic mechanical movement. With a 90-hour power reserve and a mechanism that’s anti-magnetic, thanks to a Nivachron hairspring, the movement has just 51 parts, including one central screw.
The glass is made from a bio-sourced material treated with an anti-scratch coating. Comes with a functional one-direction rotating bezel in bioceramic material with an anti-scratch coating insert. The depth rating is 50 Fathoms, which is 91 meters.
The Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms in 5 versions, based on each of the five oceans (Arctic – Ref. SO35N100 – beige/red, Pacific – SO35P100 – yellow/orange, Atlantic – Ref. SO35A100 – blue, Indian – Ref. SO35I100 – green/black, Antarctic – Ref. SO35S100 – light gray).
It’s worth noting that the Antarctic – and Arctic models feature the vintage Blancpain logo, no date function, and circular indices whereas the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian models have the modern Blancpain logo, a date function, and Arabic and triangular-shaped hour markers. Additionally, the two no-date models have circular motifs at 12 o’clock in place of the traditional Fifty Fathoms print.
Each Nato-style strap is made from recycled fishing nets removed from the sea, with a bioceramic pin buckle and loops.
Again these are all $400 retail, and like the MoonSwatch, availability is limited to physical stores only. Also, because these are equipped with 100% machine-made movements made of primarily of plastic, and crucially, break based on use or age, they’re not serviceable.
