Yesterday in London, Breitling announced the Superocean Héritage II Chronograph 44 “Outerknown,” a sustainable clothing company committed to improving environmental conditions for the entire planet.

Outerknown was co-founded by surfing legend Kelly Slater, who is also a Breitling ambassador, and the watch features a Nato strap crafted from ECONYL® yarn which is a material created from nylon waste, one source of which is from discarded fishing nets pulled from the ocean.

Breitling’s Superocean Héritage II Chronograph 44 Outerknown comes in a matte black case with polished accents and ocean blue colored dial that matches with the striped blue and black weave of the ECONYL® yarn NATO strap.

Breitling’s CEO Georges Kern says the time is right for the partnership: “We are happy to have this chance to strengthen our collaboration with Kelly Slater, who is a member of our Surfers Squad and co-founder of Outerknown. Also, by introducing the ECONYL® yarn strap, we are taking another important step in our commitment to sustainability. We are looking forward to introducing other great watches equipped with these straps in the future.”

Mark Walker, CEO of Outerknown, stated: “Breitling is a perfect and natural fit for Outerknown. Like us, they work closely with Ocean Conservancy, and it’s clear that we, and they, share common values.”

Kelly Slater, who has shown a lifelong commitment to keeping the oceans clean said: “As strange as it sounds, the beach is, in effect, my office, so I am confronted with pollution on a daily basis. I will do whatever I can to help keep the world’s beaches and oceans clean, and I’m thrilled that with the Superocean Héritage II Chronograph 44 Outerknown model, Breitling is helping raise awareness of the problem and showing how individuals can help.”

The case of the watch is stainless steel with a hard DLC coating and the rotating dive bezel is black with a scratch-resistant polished black ceramic insert. Driving the time, chronograph, day, and date is a Breitling caliber 13 (outsourced ETA/Sellita) that is adjusted to COSC-certified chronometer specifications. The water resistance is 200 meters.

For this unique edition of the Superocean Héritage II, the dial features a matte gray “SuperOcean” inscription, black nickel-plated indices, as well as a black nickel-plated Breitling logo. Additionally, the luminescent material used on the hands, dial, and bezel emit a blue glow instead of green, to complement the ocean theme. And the caseback is engraved with the Outerknown logo, which is also sewn into the strap.

Retail price will be approximately $6,000.
