F.P. Journe Octa Quantième Perpétuel Hands-On

Jason Pitsch

In 2013, F.P. Journe introduced the Octa Quantième Perpétuel, replacing the Octa Calendrier – which has an annual calendar complication – effectively making that a collector’s piece. The new design includes a more sophisticated perpetual calendar complication – that adjusts for the difference in the number of days for every month without any need for an adjustment – whereas an annual calendar needs a manual adjustment in February. Further, the perpetual calendar automatically adjusts every fourth year (leap year), for the extra day in February. This mechanism will maintain mechanical memory until the year 2100. F.P. Journe Tourbillon Souverain Bleu Only Watch 2015

F.P. Journe is has a created a unique Tourbillon Souverain Bleu watch specially for the Only Watch auction coming up in November. This is the first time ever that a tourbillon is made with a case completely crafted from tantulum. Tantulum is very difficult to work with, however it has a beautiful blue hue that gives it its appeal, and makes it worth the extra effort. The blue chrome dial compliments the color theme and creates a perfect contrast with tourbillon aperture where the 18K rose gold movement is peaking out. The movement is manually wound and features Journe’s tourbillon with remontoire (constant force device) and a dead beat seconds function. It is also finished to perfection with circular stripes on the bridges, Geneva waves on baseplate, polished screw heads and bevelled pegs with polished rounded ends.

Founded by François-Paul Journe in 1999, F.P. Journe is unique in the watchmaking world. They are a small watch manufacture with a factory in Geneva that produces complicated timepieces in-house. The company motto is “Invenit et Fecit” (which means Invented and Made). According to F.P. Journe, 95% of the components are made at the Geneva manufacture.
