For the upcoming biennial Only Watch 2021 charity auction, which raises millions of dollars for Duchene Muscular Dystrophy research — Laurent Ferrier created a special version of its classic round timepiece.

All of the proceeds from the auction go to support research to learn more about the rare degenerative neuromuscular disease that manifests itself during childhood.

Swiss watch brand Laurent Ferrier’s contribution is the Classic Origin Hope For Only Watch 2021. Presented in stainless steel, the round case measures 40 mm x 10.7 mm, with a round ball-shaped steel crown, and a one-off mint green dial, with a matching alligator leather strap.

The dial is punctuated with a slate gray chapter ring with gray printed hour markers, except at 12, 3, and 9, which have applied drop-shaped faceted and polished indices. A slate gray printed minute track is printed on the outermost portion of the dial, along with 24-hour numerals, allowing for reading of military time using the traditional hour and minute hands. The “Assegai-Shaped” hour and minute, in 18K white gold, distinguish this as a Ferrier, as does the “LAURENT FERRIER” logo stamped in slated gray at 12 o’clock. A silvery-white opaline small seconds subdial dial, with a baton-shape in white gold, sits at 6 o’clock and overlaps the hour and minute track. Completing the one-off dial is a cross-hair motif in slate gray that’s reminiscent of the Galet Ecole Annual Calendar Vintage, which came out last year, although, the piece for Only Watch 2021 is a time-only watch.

Laurent Ferrier’s in-house manually wound caliber LF116.01 (31.6 mm x 4.35 mm), runs at 3Hz, has 21 jewels, 150 total components, a Swiss lever escape, a screwed balance, and an 80-hour power reserve. “The bridges are decorated with a softly spoken micro-blasted, black rhodium finish and hand-polished edges. Each screw-head is mirror polished and the escapement bridge is gracefully adorned with a hand-made interior angle, consistent with the Maison’s fastidious attention to detail,” according to Laurent Ferrier.
