Manufacture Royale, an independent watchmaker based in Switzerland’s famous Vallée de Joux region, has unveiled a new complicated timepiece that features a double flying tourbillon, with two different rotation speeds.

The 1770 Micromegas Revolution has a regulator dial with a separate hour display located between 1 and 2 o’clock on the dial. The hours are printed in blue and a large blued Sword-shaped hand (similar to the hands on other Manufacture Royale pieces) indicates the current hour. Minutes are indicated by a skeletonized rotating disk, just below and to the left of the hour subdial. The upper left of the dial is dominated by the micro-rotor, which is steel on the titanium case and rose gold for the rose gold case.

At the bottom of the dial, are the stars of the show: two double flying tourbillons. The left tourbillon cage rotates once every 6 seconds, so it is spinning very fast. Whereas the right tourbillon cage spins much slower (ten times slower), or once every 60 seconds, which is also the most common rotation speed for a tourbillon cage. It is unclear if there is any chronometric benefit from having two tourbillons rotating at completely different speeds, however, what is clear is mesmerizing view you get when you watch them rotate in a desynchronized manner.

Enhancing the focus on the brushed silver colored hour, minute, and tourbillon displays, are contrasting dark ruthenium treated bridges and mainplate, which were finished by hand. You can also see the blued silicon escape wheel and pallet fork, oscillating underneath their respective brass flying balance wheels, and the tourbillon cages.

The power reserve of caliber MR08 is 40-hours. The backside of the mainplate features Geneva stripes. The crown is emblazoned with MR logo and has been hand-polished and sanded. The case measures 45 mm x 11.8 mm and is crafted either from titanium or rose gold. Water-resistance is 30 meters. Each watch is complemented by a hand-stitched alligator strap and matching folding clasp. (Ref. 1770MR45.10.B – titanium, 1770MR45.08.B – rose gold)
