After being teased months back, Omega has debuted a new white dial version of its most iconic timepiece, the Moonwatch.
Coming as no surprise after being photographed on Daniel Craig’s wrist and leaked by Omega last year, then teased on Omega’s Instagram page last week, the Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional White Dial — which many have dubbed the “Daniel Craig” — is a real beauty.
Featuring the existing 42 mm x 13.2 mm (47.5 mm lug-to-lug) stainless steel case (weighs 140 grams on a bracelet) is 50 meters water resistant, and is available only in a sapphire crystal version (no Hesalite version).
Driving the hours, minutes, small seconds, and chronograph is the same excellent manual wind METAS-certified Master Chronometer Omega caliber 3861 as in current Moonwatches, which is tested and adjusted to an ultra-precise rated 0/+5 seconds per day. Featuring Omega’s proprietary Co-Axial escapement, free-sprung balance wheel with silicon spring that’s resistant to magnetic fields to 15,000 gausses, caliber 3861 beats at 3Hz and has a 50-hour power reserve. The chronograph movement is cam-operated with a horizontal clutch and can be viewed through the sapphire caseback, which reveals a rhodium-plated finish, and bridges with Geneva stripes.
There have been previous white dial Moonwatches but only in limited editions (such as the Speedmaster 40th Anniversary Albino for the Italian market and a Speedmaster Alaska re-edition), or precious metal models, until now. Omega contrasted the bright white lacquer paint job by printing “Speedmaster” in red, with a matching red tip on the chronograph seconds, and giving the hands and applied indices/Omega emblem a matte black treatment, that when coupled with the fixed black anodized aluminum tachymeter bezel — creates an attractive Panda-style aesthetic despite having tone on tone subdials.
According to Omega, the dial design is “Inspired by astronaut suits and the iconic ALASKA I prototype from 1969, the white dial includes contrasting black details and a glossy lacquer finish — the first ever on a Moonwatch step dial.”
The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional White Dial “Daniel Craig” (Ref. 310.30.42.50.04.001) as shown with a stainless steel bracelet, retails for $8,100. There are also options for a black anti-bacterial rubber strap (Ref. 310.32.42.50.04.002) or a black perforated racing leather strap with contrast stitching (Ref. 310.32.42.50.04.001), for slightly less.
