Tissot has expanded its PRX collection — which currently includes 25 mm, 35 mm, 38 mm, 40 mm, and 42 mm case sizes — with three new 38 mm-diameter references.

Two of the new PRX 38 models are crafted in lightweight titanium, one with an anthracite dial, stamped waffle pattern, and rose-gold plated applied indices and hands, the second with a blue stamped waffle pattern dial, steel colored applied indices and hands, and the third with a Damascus steel dial and applied indices.

Three PRX 38 References

The two PRX 38 Titanium options measure  38 mm x 10.98 mm, with integrated titanium bracelets, available with either a blue waffle pattern dial or an anthracite waffle pattern dial. The PRX 38 Damascus Steel is also presented in a 38 mm x 10.98 mm case; however, instead of an integrated metal bracelet, it’s presented with an integrated leather strap that features a Damascus steel buckle and end links. Both the bracelet and the strap come with quick-release spring bars.

Damascus Steel

As you would expect from a Swatch Group that focuses on cost-cutting and selling at volume, especially within the Tissot, Swatch, and other entry-level watch brands, this type of Damascus steel is not made by manually forge-welding two different types of steel (high-carbon and low-carbon steel) to create the unique one-of-a-kind pattern you see on the dial and case. Instead, according to Tissot, its Damascus steel is produced via “a complex process in which two grades of stainless steel powder are layered in alternating sequences and fused under extreme pressure, forming a dense 70-layer block that gives the metal its strength and depth.” What they’re referring to is a CNC machining process, not the manual forge-welded method that modern Damascus steel is typically created with.
