Swiss watchmaker Armin Strom announced a new limited edition timepiece today, in collaboration with an Instagram watch collector that’s known for creating highly magnified images of watches.

The Pure Resonance Ultimate Sapphire is the result of a discussion that took place between @horomariobro and authorized retailer Jeremey Oster, who’s the co-owner of Oster Jewelers (located in Denver’s Cherry Creek neighborhood). After a series of conversations, Oster reached out to Armin Strom’s co-founder and master watchmaker Claude Greisler, and together the three created the watch you see here.

At Horomariobro’s request, Armin Strom gave the Pure Resonance a sapphire dial, allowing the front side of the movement to be viewed even more clearly than before. Additionally, he asked for the small seconds indications to be removed, for the brand logo to be replaced with the minimalist brand emblem instead, and for Armin Strom’s signature case lip, which can be seen on the existing Pure Resonance timepiece, to be removed from the bezel (at 6 o’clock).

Despite the small seconds markings being removed, the easily recognizable oscillating balance wheels — which rotate in opposite directions and create a visual treat — have been kept intact, as this is an element that makes this watch so special, both visually and horologically.

Presented in a 42 mm x 13 mm stainless steel case, the Pure Resonance Ultimate Sapphire is conservatively sized and can be worn in casual and formal situations. The rather flat crown enhances wearability, without sacrificing grip while winding the watch or setting the hours and minutes. The case has sapphire crystals front and back and is water-resistant to a depth of 50 meters.

Finishing is a hallmark of the small Biel/Bienne watchmaker and this timepiece exudes their philosophy. “The black PVD-coated gear train bridges are adorned with a unique grain d’orge guilloché pattern by Kari Voutilainen, whereas all other decorations are made in-house by Armin Strom. Edges are hand-beveled wherever humanly possible, the balance bridges are skeletonized and circular-grained, while the other bridges are either hand frosted, mirror polished, or given perlage treatment. And note the grainy texture on the winding bridge on the right: an exquisite example of tremblage achieved by one of Armin Strom’s master engravers spending hours and hours carefully and painstakingly digging a frosted pattern with a customized engraving tool,” according to the manufacture.

While Armin Strom timepieces tend to have the most exquisite components and decorations visible on the dial side of the case, the caseback has “undergone significant technical development, showing off the crown wheel’s improved ratchet mechanism (which gives the click-click sound when you wind the watch). The back side also carries ‘the pin,’ Armin Strom’s seal of origin. This has been engraved with ‘Horomariobro,’ the Armin Strom symbol, and a unique serial number in the limited edition, before being matt finished, hand-beveled, and circular-grained,” according to Armin Strom. Further, the caseback features a hobnail guilloche-work decoration, similar to what’s seen on the dial side.
