This is the Snoopy MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase New Moon.
It’s essentially a reverse of the all-white colorway Snoopy MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase announced last month. First was the all-white with black accents model, and now Swatch has announced an all-black with white accents variation.
Perhaps for future Snoopy models, Swatch will introduce a new case/dial/strap color each month, instead of swapping out the chronograph seconds hands like they did previously. Or maybe they’ll make Snoopys with a gold chronograph seconds hand.
Making a basic ceramic-plastic watch, that borrows heavily from Omega’s bestselling Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch design, and then restricting access to buyers who are required to trek to the stores in person, to get one if they’re lucky, has proven to be an effective marketing strategy. Though as is often the case with most sales successes — they don’t last forever. Right now, Swatch is presumably doing everything it can to keep this going, except for the most obvious: selling MoonSwatches online. Sure, it might kill what remaining hype is left, but not doing it might kill it even faster.
The Snoopy MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase New Moon (Ref. SO33B700) is available starting April 8, 2024 (which is also the same day as the 2024 total solar eclipse) — only at Swatch stores — for a retail price of $310.
