For golfers, keeping score is something that’s very important to the game, and while paper and pencil work fine, tapping a button on your wrist to tally each shot is a useful complication.

There are plenty of golf smartwatches on the market for small sums relative to a mechanical wristwatch. Using GPS technology, Garmin’s highly advanced Approach S62 smartwatch can not only tally your score — it can show terrain maps, wind speed, distance to the flag, and so much more for $500. There are even smart devices that have a similar form factor to a FitBit which can simply help you keep score for as low as $40.

Hublot’s Unico Gold Orange Carbon watch cannot do anything more than a $40 smart band, but it does so mechanically, which is far rarer — and more expensive to produce — than any of the golf smartwatches and smart devices.

The Unico Golf Orange Carbon is the fourth colorway of Hublot’s golf watch (silver, black, and yellow versions were previously introduced). Presented in the same 45 mm case, with a carbon fiber bezel and case, and a new orange-colored Texalium upper layer, the watch is lightweight in spite of the large case diameter.

An automatic caliber HUB1580 Unico chronograph movement — visible through an open caseback — powers the hours, minutes, and golf function (hole, shot, total counters). To mechanically achieve this rather unique golf functionality, Hublot replaced the traditional chronograph — and the requisite push-pieces — with HOLE and SHOT pushers where the START/STOP and RESET buttons usually reside.

The three counters are located on the skeletonized dial, framed and labeled as HOLE, SHOT, and TOTAL — so you can quickly check your hole score and total score at a glance. There’s of course no need to recharge it as the rotor winds the watch automatically as you move, and features a generous maximum power reserve of 72-hours.

The Unico Golf Orange Carbon is water-resistant to 100 meters and is paired with an orange calfskin leather and black carbon fiber strap that matches the case. Delivered in a 100 piece limited edition, the Unico Golf Orange Carbon (Ref. 416.YO.1120.VR) retails for $32,500.
