Today, Hodinkee and Zenith debuted their second timepiece collaboration, a 50 piece limited edition that pays homage to the 50th Anniversary of the El Primero chronograph movement, one of the first automatic chronographs.

The Zenith El Primero Revival G381 limited edition is presented in a 38 mm diameter yellow gold case with a true black-on-white “Panda” dial and sold exclusively at Hodinkee. Created in 1969 concurrently with the A386, Ref. G381 is one of the Le Locle manufacture’s most collectible timepieces.

According to Zenith, “The original G381 was produced in fewer than 700 examples, making it one of the most sought after vintage Zenith El Primeros by collectors today.”

This is a faithful reissue with a white lacquer dial and oversized subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock, and small pushers and crown. Unlike previous Hodinkee collaborative editions from Zenith and other manufacturers, this particular limited edition has no Hodinkee branding on the watch itself, and it’s actually just exclusive to their store, not a full collaboration.

Inside, is a 5Hz caliber 400 automatic chronograph with an integrated column-wheel and horizontal clutch and 50-hours of power reserve, which is a modern version of the original El Primero from 1969.

Available exclusively in The Hodinkee Shop, the Limited Edition Zenith El Primero Revival G381 is limited to only 50 pieces, with pre-orders now open for delivery by end of September.Retail is $19,200.
