Following a long-running patent dispute between medical technology company Masimo and Apple — regarding the blood oxygen sensor technology used for the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 — Apple has been ordered to halt sales of all Apple Watches equipped with the blood oxygen sensors.

In compliance with the International Trade Commission ruling in October, Apple will indefinitely cease sales of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 that were released in September.

As of 3 pm ET on December 21, 2023, Apple.com will no longer sell the company’s latest two Apple Watches. Nor will the Apple retail stores which are pulling all stock after December 24, 2023.

As Apple and Masimo continue the dispute the rest of the Apple Watch lineup will still be available for sale.

This will certainly impact sales of Apple’s multi-billion-dollar smartwatch business, and Apple stock has already fallen slightly following the news.
