TAG Heuer added to their Autavia line to start the year, with two new flyback chronographs, available in limited quantities.
The Autavia Chronometer Flyback is presented in two stainless steel cases measuring 42 mm x 15.68 mm, one without a coating and the other with a black PVD coating.
As shown, each of the 2022 Autavia Chronometer Flybacks comes with a black alligator leather strap and has a toolless easy change system to swap straps or bracelets on the fly. There are also a number of factory leather and nato-style straps, and a single steel bracelet, available for purchase. The interlug width is 21 mm.
This redesigned chronograph collection features TAG Heuer’s in-house automatic Heuer 02 flyback chronograph caliber, which beats at 4Hz, has a column wheel, an 80-hour power reserve, is COSC-certified, and most notably, has a new flyback chronograph function that allows you to start and restart the chronograph without resetting it.
A sapphire crystal protects the dial, along with a screwed sapphire caseback on the back, and stainless steel ridged screw-down crown. The depth rating is 100 meters. A bidirectional ridged steel bezel with a glossy black ceramic insert gives the Autavia a fresh look while also providing enhanced scratch protection compared to an aluminum insert.
An oversized Sword-shaped hour hand, a baton-shaped minute hand, and applied indices — which are all filled with a generous amount of lume — give this sports watch good legibility. Interestingly the beveled chronograph hours and minutes registers (left to right), have a raised azurage-stamped motif in the center — creating additional depth to stand out like the indices. However, the running seconds counter at 6 o’clock — which is tone-on-tone on both variations — sits flush with the dial. In place of the 12 o’clock index a monotone TAG Heuer shield logo has been applied.
The Autavia Chronometer Flyback (Ref. CBE511C.FC8280 – black PVD steel, CBE511B.FC8279 – steel) retail prices are $6,300 for the stainless steel version and $6,950 for the PVD stainless steel model.
