This year the top-of-the-line MR-G watch (pictured top), features bright red highlights on the dial, along with gold accents. Taking inspiration from the traditional Japanese sword, the case is made from recrystallized titanium, creating a sparkling appearance that evokes the crystal formation of the temper line on the blade of Japanese swords. An Arc ion-plating treatment is then applied in the Koki-murasaki (deep purple) that’s traditionally associated with nobility in Japan. The bezel is made from Cobarion® and beveled in a manner inspired by the blade tip of a Japanese sword. The MRG-G2000GA Gassan is hand-finished by a master craftsman in the world-renowned Gassan tradition of Japanese swordsmiths and will be limited to 300 pieces worldwide. Retail is $7,400.

G-Shock Full Metal 5000 Black Aged IP
G-Shock Full Metal 5000 Black Aged IP

One of the hottest collections for G-Shock has been the Full Metal 5000 line which’s a throwback to the original square G-Shock from 1983 but in a metallic case. Initially available in polished steel, black polished steel, and polished gold-plated steel, the collection continues to evolve with new iterations, and for 2019 a Black Aged IP steel case GMWB5000V-1 has been added. Instead of a smooth, shiny black surface, the Full Metal 5000 Black aged IP Limited Edition exterior is rougher and has a matte finish. This model is a limited edition and costs double price of the original Full Metal 5000. Retail is $1,000.
