A complicated, and rare, Patek Philippe Ref. 5204 platinum timepiece that was originally sold in May of this year will be auctioned tomorrow at Antiquoroum’s New York auction. The estimate is $250-$350K. Notably, the same reference in platinum is also available for sale on eBay right now, with a “buy it now” of $296,999. Hands-On with the Swatch SISTEM 51 Black

Jason Pitsch

Launched at Baselworld 2013, the Sistem 51 has been the most talked about sub $1000 watch I can remember. What is so special about it? As the name suggests, it has only 51 parts. A single screw holds the movement together. The movement is made of a synthetic, anti-magnetic material called ARCAP. There are 19 jewels and the power reserve is 90-hours. The automatic winding rotor is the peripheral type, so you barely even notice it. Uniquely, everything is made and assembled by machine. There are 17 patents pending for the process.

Last night, at the grand opening of the A. Lange & Söhne’s new boutique, located at 785 Madison Avenue, the German watchmaker unveiled a boutique edition of the Richard Lange Tourbillon “Pour le Mérite”. The special timepiece, which will be available exclusively at any of the brand’s 13 stores, is a white gold version of the original model, which was launched in 2010, and that we went hands-on with here. According to Lange, “The special edition of the RICHARD LANGE TOURBILLON “Pour le Mérite” is now being presented with a noble white-gold case. The high-contrast time display with blued-steel hands and blue hour markers in the minute circle assures excellent legibility on the argenté-coloured solid-silver dial as the background.”

Early Roger Dubuis chronograph to be auctioned

The manufacture Roger Dubuis was founded by the watchmaker Roger Dubuis in 1995. In 2008, the Richemont bought a majority stake in the brand, at which time Roger Dubuis and no longer provided input. Interestingly, while this timepiece is not expected to reach an astronomical number, it illustrates how much of a departure the design of the earlier watches is from the watches the brand is known for today.

The Ultimate Professional Pilot's Chronograph

Earlier this month, Breitling launched a technically impressive new digital-analog Pilot’s Chronograph wristwatch. The Breitling Cockpit B50’s coolest feature is the “titling motion activated” backlighting system. A simple tilt of the wrist automatically activates the dial’s backlight so it is readable in all conditions. The caveat, is that you have to recharge it, which is done by plugging into a USB port or traditional electrical socket. The Breitlng B50 Cockpit Pilot’s watch features an exclusive in-house SuperQuartz movement, the caliber B50. The COSC chronometer certified thermo-compensated caliber is ten times more accurate than a standard quartz. Functions include split-time and fly back capabilities, as well as a second time zone display, a perpetual calendar, two alarms in buzzer and/or vibrate mode, a lap timer function and a countdown complete with alarm. It is also equipped with an electronic tachometer, a
