Zodiac debuted a pair of limited edition Super Sea Wolf stainless steel World Time watches, based on 1970s archival timepieces, this week.

The original 1970s models — which are a spitting image of the modern version — measured 36 mm in diameter. However, like the Super Sea Wolf and Super Sea Wolf Aerospace GMT, the new Super Sea Wolf World Time Limited Edition features a larger, but still vintage-styled, 40 mm diameter case. While the case diameters are the same, the thickness varies, within the Super modern Sea Wolf Collection, and the case of the World Time measures 14 mm thick, which is slightly taller than the other Sea Wolf variants.

A screw-down crown, screwed caseback, and sapphire crystal protects the case, and as with the growing collection of existing models, the bezel is made of mineral crystal, which is shatter-resistant but can be scratched with enough force. The same 200 meters of water-resistance as the aforementioned models if offered here.

Aligning the 24-hour red and white GMT hand mounted in the center of the dial, with the fixed 24-hour ring printed on the flange, allows you to read a second time zone. Further, when you rotate the bidirectional 24 cities World Time bezel, you can view those 23 time zones at a glance as well.

To achieve the GMT functionality, Zodiac chose the Soprod caliber C125, as opposed to the caliber ETA 2893-2 used for the Aerospace GMT mentioned above. Both are automatic GMT watches that run at 4Hz, but the Soprod has 25 jewels to the ETA’s 21 jewels, and the Soprod also has a 42-hour versus 38-hour power reserve. The two both have a quickset 24-hour (red/white) GMT hands and regular setting for the local time (the primary central mounted hour and minute hands). This is a “caller GMT” configuration as the local time hour hand is set the traditional way, whereas a “true GMT” would have the quickset function on the local hour hand.

The Super Sea Wolf World Time Limited Edition comes on a vintage-spec 20 mm lug-width faux-riveted Oyster style stainless steel bracelet. The watch is available in the two references shown, each limited to 500 pieces.

Retail is $1,795.
